Scarifying

Scarifying is carried out when there is an unwanted build up of thatch, dead grass and moss. Thatch is created by a build up of dead and decaying plant and organic material, it will prevent grass from growing, encourage pests and diseases and reduces the surface drainage.
An excessive thatch layer can restrict the movement of air, water and fertiliser to the roots of the grass, all of which are necessary for healthy grass growth on a pitch or fairway. The scarifying process will thin out and remove the excess thatch, dead grass and moss leaving the remaining healthy strong grass.
